GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION
GOD'S PLAN OF SALVATION
STEP 1 – HEAR
God's plan for saving people begins
when a person hears God's word (Romans 10:17) from the Bible, concerning Jesus'
life, death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven. Those who hear how much
God loves them (enough to give the life of his Son to atone for their sins)
will understand that God wants to free them from and forgive them of their
sins, and adopt them into his family through his beloved Son.
STEP 2 – BELIEVE
After hearing God's word, people develop faith (Hebrews 11:6) in
God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. They begin to believe in God's plan, and
realize that God loves and cares for them. The more they hear God's word, the
more their faith grows.
STEP 3 – REPENT
The next step for a person who has come to believe in God is to
start to love God, and to hate sinful living. A person repents (Luke 13:3) of
the sinful way of living and turns to the Lord acting in faith. This means
changing their way of life by replacing their old sinful ways with new spiritually
minded ways.
STEP 4 - CONFESS
The repentant sinner comes to recognize the need to confirm that Jesus is God's Son. God's word says that believing in our hearts and confessing that Jesus is the Son of God is required for our salvation (Romans 10:10). This means that a person believes that Jesus is the Christ that was foretold in the Old Testament -- the Savior promised by God. Jesus said that if a person confesses Him before others that He would confess that person before His Father in Heaven (Matthew 10:32).
STEP 5 – BAPTISM
Having heard God's word, developed faith, repented of one's sins, and confessed Christ, a sinner has only to have their sins washed away to become a Christian. That final step in becoming a Christian is to be baptized (Acts 2:38) to receive forgiveness for past sins, washing them away through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. It is this obedient act that forms the bond to Christ (Galatians 3:27), and that person besomes a Christian, a new creature in God's sight.
